It all began towards the end of the 19th Century with Julius Maggi in Switzerland, the country that invented packaged soups. In the 1880s, Julius Maggi noticed that the Industrial Revolution was taking a toll on Swiss cooking and the nation’s health. Women, who in earlier times had cooked the vitamin-rich, substantial soups that held body and soul together, now worked for long hours in the factories and had little time for cooking.
Maggi succeeded in creating a mixture of ingredients based on flour and seasonings (the ancestor of the Swiss soup cube) that made delicious meals in less time. Maggi also invented the world-famous MAGGI® Seasoning and MAGGI® Stock Cube, which became famous for their versatility and flavor enhancement of many dishes.
The name “MAGGI” has since expanded over a hundredfold in its popularity and range.
